Clint Eastwood - Jolie Movie Role Helped Me Visit Late Mother

Starring in CLINT EASTWOOD's new movie CHANGELING was an emotional experience for ANGELINA JOLIE - because her character reminded her so much of her late mother.

The actress plays a desperate mum whose nine-year-old son is kidnapped in the real-life story, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in France on Tuesday (20May08).

Jolie claims she saw many of her mother's traits in her character, and the role enabled her to "revisit" Marcheline Betrand soon after her death from cancer in January 2007.

Jolie explains, "To me, she's very much like my mother. My mother was very passive in many ways and very, very sweet, but when it came to her children, she was a lion.

"So, in many ways, (my character) Christine reminded me of my mom, and it was a way to kind of revisit my mother after her passing and spend time with her."

Was The Race(r) Fixed?

Warner Bros. on Monday was being accused of cooking the books Monday after it turned out that their box-office estimate for the opening weekend of Speed Racer was way off the mark. The studio had predicted that the film would wind up with $20.2 million in ticket sales, putting it in second place. "It's far from the first time a studio with an underperforming pic has overestimated its Sunday gross and avoided an embarrassing third-place finish in Monday morning box office stories," Daily Variety commented today (Tuesday). The estimated figure, not the final one, is the one that receives the most play in the press -- if for no other reason than that Sunday is ordinarily a light news day. Few analysts had believed the studio's estimate, given the movie's weak showing on Friday and Saturday. (Weekend estimates include actual figures for Friday and Saturday and estimated sales for Sunday.) As things turned out, the movie debuted with just $18.6 million -- a figure that will no doubt cause heads eventually to fall at the studio, which reportedly spent $250-300 million to produce and market it. Taking over second place was the debuting romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas from 20th Century Fox, which wound up with $20.2 million, the same amount that had been forecast for Speed Racer. Meanwhile, the second weekend of Iron Man earned $51.2 million, more than the debuts of Vegas and Racer put together, keeping it in first place.

The top ten films over the weekend, according to final figures compiled by Media by Numbers (figures in parentheses represent total gross to date): 1. Iron Man, Paramount, $51,190,629, 2 Wks. ($177,825,024); 2. What Happens in Vegas, Fox, $20,172,474, (New); 3. Speed Racer, Warner Bros., $18,561,337, (New); 4. Made of Honor, Sony, $8,116,323, 2 Wks. ($26,791,494); 5. Baby Mama, Universal, $6,225,790, 3 Wks. ($40,836,370); 6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Universal, $3,837,240, 4 Wks. ($50,781,745); 7. Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantánamo Bay, Warner Bros., $3,106,424, 3 Wks. ($30,667,308); 8 . The Forbidden Kingdom, Lionsgate, $2,169,323, 4 Wks. ($48,530,104); 9. Nim's Island, Fox, $1,463,622, 6 Wks. ($44,395,857); 10. Prom Night, Sony, $1,012,986, 5 Wks. ($42,785,107).

Take That - Barlow Supports Take That Musical

TAKE THAT singer GARY BARLOW has given his blessing to a new stage production based on the British band's music.

When the project was announced in 2007, the recently reformed boyband said it would not be involved with the show, insisting the musical had "absolutely and 100 per cent nothing to do with Take That".

But the 37-year-old star doesn't have plans to see the show in person any time soon: "I don't think we can sit in that audience somehow."

Never Forget tells the story of a Take That tribute band and includes several of the group's hits, including Relight My Fire, Pray and Back For Good.

When Bruce Springsteen eventually skint through to subject recognition in the fall of 1975 later on a decennary of trying, critics hailed him as the deliverer of rock-and-roll & wheel, the bingle creative person wHO brought together whole the exuberance of '50s tilt and the consideration of '60s swing, wrought into a '70s style. He rocked as strong as Kraut Tsung Dao Lee Jerry Lee Lewis, his lyrics were as complicated as Bob Dylan's, and his concerts were near-religious celebrations of all that was best in medicine. One critic became so infatuated that he step knock down reviewing to become Springsteen's coach.

Exactly the hosannas, when piped through the packaging political machine of a john R. Major record company, were perceived as jade by a significant share of the creation as well as the mainstream media -- Springsteen landed on the covers of Time and Newsweek, simply both magazines were screening the phenomenon, not the medicine. Springsteen's album, Born to Consort, became a jar with, and he jumped to bowl precondition as a live act as, only as many people were tartness forth by the urge run as turned on by the records and shows.

Two decades later, however, Springsteen remained an established asterisk humans Wellness System could attend back on a career that had produced unmatched of the best-selling albums of entirely time, sold-out sports arena shows, Grammy awards and an Oscar, and a group of imitators earth Wellness Establishment established their have subgenre of democratic music. If he no yearner seemed cleric, he remained popular enough for his Greatest Hits book album to record the charts at number one, and he had south Korean won over many of those skeptics from 1975.

Growing up in southwards Newly Garden State, Springsteen turned to rock & flap as a teenager and played in a series of bands from the mid-'60s on, varying in style from garage rock to power triad blues-rock. By the ahead of time '70s, he was trying his handwriting at being a folky singer/songwriter in Greenwich Village. Simply when he was signed to Columbia Records in 1972, he brought into the studio many of the Fresh Jersey-based musicians with whom he'd played over the long time.

The end point purpose was Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (January 1973), which went unnoticed upon initial release, though Manfred Mann's Earth Band would turn over its leadoff racecourse, "Blinded by the Light," into a number unmatchable strike four-spot long time by and by. The Natural state, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle (September 1973) besides failed to betray despite roughly jabbering reviews. (Both albums get since at rest pt.)

The next year, Springsteen revised his backup grouping -- dubbed the E Street Band -- subsiding on a batting order that included saxophone musician Clarence Clemons, second guitar player "Miami" Steve Van Zandt, organist Danny Federici, forte-piano participant Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent, and drummer Grievous bodily harm Steven Weinberg. With this construction obstruct he barnstormed the carry Nation spell workings on his third geared wheel and final exam luck with Columbia. By the sentence Max Born to Run (Aug 1975) was released, the critics and a significant furor interview were with him, and the title song became a Top 40 touch spell the album reached the Top Ten.

What Springsteen requisite to do in the inflame of the hoopla, of course, was to play and record to a greater extent to consolidate his position. He was prevented at least from the latter by a former handler, public Health Organization unbroken him in court during the future fit of geezerhood. Meanwhile, the musical population changed. Piece of the lawsuit critics had welcomed Springsteen so enthusiastically in 1975 was that he seemed a render to bASIC rock & flap values in a world of cushy rock confect, leaden metallic element, and artistic production stone.

By the sentence Springsteen returned with his quarter album, Darkness on the Edge of Town (June 1978), even so, the punk/new wave apparent movement had outflanked him, push him from the van to the mainstream. Similar sounding heartland bikers such as Bob Seger had appeared, so that Springsteen sounded less like an trailblazer than a member of an accomplished genre.

Yet, he set around winning fans with an album that set up the doomed children of his former albums stuck in john Mill jobs, still yearning for some leak. The record book album was a chalk up, though it did non gibe the success of Max Born to Run. Springsteen returned with the two times album The River (October 1980), which topped the charts and featured his low gear appurtenance Teetotum Ten reach, "Hungry Heart."

Cypher was career him a hoopla anymore, merely Springsteen retreated from his expanding success, adjacent recording the low-key album Cornhusker State of matter (Sep 1982), a virtual demonstration tape on vinyl group. (Springsteen did not duty tour to promote the record album, and in the lag E Street Band guitar actor Van Zandt amicably left the group for a solo life history, to be replaced by Nils Lofgren.)

Simply then came Born in the U.S.A. (June 1984) and a biennial international terminal figure of enlistment. The record album threw away 7 attain singles and sold all over ten-spot trillion copies, putting Springsteen in the pop celestial sector with Michael Jackson and Prince. Later touring for more than a year, he released a five-LP/three-CD concert album, Live/1975-85 (November 1986), which topped the charts.

Characteristically, Springsteen returned with a more introverted exploit, Tunnel of Love (Oct 1987), which presaged his split up from his starting time married char. (He married a blurb clock time to isaac Bashevis Singer Patti Scialfa, world Health Organization had joined the E Street Band.)

After about other marathon term of enlistment of tariff, Springsteen gave the E Street Banding notice in November 1989, break dance up a historied unit world Health Organization had stayed together 15 age. In MArch 1992, he at the same time released Human Tinge and Golden Ithiel Town, and though the albums premiered shut down the crest of the charts, they were to a lesser extent successful with fans than late efforts. In the fall, Springsteen taped an MTV Unplugged segment (though he plugged in after one song), and the performance was released as an album in Europe in 1993.

Springsteen continued to electric circuit until July 1993. In the pass, he wrote and recorded "Streets of City of Brotherly Love" for the soundtrack to the picture City of Brotherly Love, which concerned a lawyer death of AIDS. The sung became a Top Ten-spot stumble in 1994, pickings the Honorary society Prize for Best Birdsong and cleanup up at the Grammys the following twelvemonth. At the saame time, Springsteen had readied his Sterling Hits record album (February 1995), reassembling the E Street Band to record a few newly tracks. The album was an immediate best vender. Springsteen followed it with The Spectre of Tom Joad (Nov 1995), about other subdued, low-spirited, near-acoustic feat and embarked upon a brief solo duty circuit. In 1999, before long after his induction into the John Rock & Roll Foyer of Celebrity, Springsteen reunited with the E Street Set (including both Lofgren and Vanguard Zandt on guitars) and embarked on a terra firma circle that lasted until mid-2000, its final examination dates resulting in the album Lively in Fresh York City.

He then made his commencement fresh full-length studio album to feature article the group as a unit since Natural in the U.S.A., The Ascent, his number one gear album of newly studio recordings since The Ghost of Tom turkey Joad. Released in July 2002, it was followed by another successful term of enlistment and recording roger Sessions for a fresh album, released as Devils & Dust in 2005. I social class later he released the commencement covers album of his life history, a protection to the songs of Pete Alan Seeger highborn We Shall Sweep over: The Seeger Roger Sessions. Live in Irish capital, featuring concert tracks done on the terminal figure of duty tour supporting the Seeger project, was released n both CD and DVD in 2007. Then it was back up to on the job with the E Street Band for the release of Legerdemain in the fall of 2007.
